Mubarakan Film Review By Manya Malhotra

Mubarakan

Comedy
3

Cast: Arjun Kapoor, Anil Kapoor , Ileana D'cruz, Athiya Shetty, Ratna Pathak Shah , Neha Sharma.
Director: Anees Bazmee
Story: Two twin brothers end up getting engaged to the wrong girls and what follows is an extremely bizarre sequence of events!
Review: Mubarakan is a glamorous outing. It is a full -  on Punjabi wedding film with glossy sets  ,  groovy music  and the the lead actors in spunky costumes. The film  has a slow start . I was anyways tired before going inside the hall and the first 40 minutes of this film  could have almost broken my record of not falling asleep in any Bollywood film till date.  it was just simply not funny and a bit foolish. Sample this , A guy has come to a girls house to fix his marriage with her and the girl  asks him  'do you have a girlfriend ?' It is also ruined by a brother - sister angel which is just too monotonous to watch. Bazmee could have handled this angle better , given the fact that it was a very crucial part of the film. Also one thing I would like to share with you is that it is good to believe in god , but you cannot leave everything to him! The characters of this film (perhaps the director too) have a certain tendency to do that ." Maine Sab kuch baaba ji pe chod Diya hai ab jo bhi karenge Wahi karenge." When all they have to do is talk to their parents and tell them they love someone else!  Is it that tough! However , the film gets  much better after the Hawa Hawa Song , which comes in the film with a fresh breeze.  Here onwards , the film becomes entertaining to watch . Unlike the other films I have reviewed in the past,  mubaarakan's second half is better than it's first half.  It is energetic and peppy and quite fun! Seems like the director saved the best for the last. The scenes where the children look to their chacha and maama , Kartaar Singh (don't worry the relations are explained in the film) for help are truly very  hilarious. This film has no double meaning jokes and no cringe worthy scenes ( except perhaps the ending , which feels a bit stretched.)The music compliments the setting of the film, both are Zany , Quirky and  ludicrous.
No one is taking themselves too seriously and that is a good thing and extremely essential for this kind of a  "leave your mind at home " mass entertainer.
Anil Kapoor  is a revelation . He is super energetic and in top form and of course he brings in the most laughs!
His nephew , however might not have inherited the comic genes from him . As Arjun Kapoor though sincere , he lacks the required panache and gusto to carry off this role. That being said , he does bring a Smile to your faces in quite a few scenes .
Ileana D'cruz is not bad and she looks drop- dead gorgeous. Athiya Shetty has a small role but she is fairly good. Her performance was much better  here than in her debut film. Though behind in the looks department , she is confident . I liked Neha Sharma too , she is  chic and sophisticated. Ratna Pathak Shah is  delightful  as usual.
Mubarakan is like that dish which when put in your mouth is bland but later turns sweet and in the end whether you like it or not will depend on how much of a foodie you are !
So watch this one if you are prepared to go bonkers and indulge in some mindless humour with the occasional hindi - serial melodrama .

Saiyaara: A Film Review and My Thoughts on Its Reception- By Manya Malhotra

Saiyaara: A Film Review and My Thoughts on Its Reception   Saiyaara Reception and Backlash Saiyaara opened to an 84 crores net domestic box office figure on its opening weekend, a feat unheard of for a film with newcomers, in an industry still recognised as primarily star-led. (For context, the two major films starring newcomers in the past 13 years- Dhadak and Student of the Year, earned 33.65 and 30 crores respectively). I have been a Bollywood (or Hindi film industry) fan for as long as I can remember. Seeing one of its films get such a massive reception has been heartwarming, and I cannot remember the last time a film got so much love. It has now been two weeks since the film’s release. I have read both positive and negative reactions to the film’s unprecedented success, and after digesting it all, I thought it was finally time to revisit my blog and pen down my honest opinion on both the film and everything that has followed since its release. Skeptics will spin many t...

Darlings Film Review By Manya Malhotra

Darlings Film Review By Manya Malhotra Cast :   Alia Bhatt, Vijay Verma, Shefali Shah, Roshan Mathew, Rajesh Sharma, Vijay Maurya Director:   Jasmeet K. Reen   Review :   Darlings is co-written by writer-director Jasmeet K Reen and Parveez Sheikh, who has films like Queen to his writing credits. It stars powerhouse performers like Alia Bhatt, Shefali Shah, and Vijay Verma — and is also Bhatt’s maiden film as a producer. Clearly, the expectations with this one are very high— and yet it still manages to make an impact.  Darling s tells the story of Badrunissa who suffers physical and psychological abuse at the hands of her husband before one day finally deciding to retaliate.  Make no mistake, Darlings is not an easy film to watch. It is infuriating but also determinedly terrifying. It lets you breathe but is also dangerously unsettling.    The first half of the film is the hardest to watch....

Ek Villain Returns Film Review By Manya Malhotra

Ek Villain Returns Review ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ Cast : Arjun Kapoor, Disha Patani, John Abraham, Tara Sutaria Directo r: Mohit Suri Review: Ek Villain Returns is the smiley face-filled sequel to the Blockbuster film Ek Villain . If you did not get the smiley reference, you should probably  check out the first film in the franchise—or not if you value your sanity even a little. I went into the hall for Ek Villain Returns highly sceptical, and willing to wholly suspend disbelief. My decision to do so paid off greatly as I denied myself my usual urge to protest exasperatedly when the hero, or villain, or whatever humiliated and terrified a famous singer to clear the stage (literally) for an up-and-coming artist who he happened to fancy. I also bought it when, impressed by this charming gesture the girl ended up falling head over heels in love with the man.   This is Director Mohit Suri’s world, here love always coexists with pain...
