Celebrating Bollywood and One Year Of Filmy Boli

Celebrating Bollywood And One Year Of Filmy Boli

I started this blog as a hobby, you see I love everything about the movies! Today as Filmy Boli turns one 1 and I complete 23 posts I have to thank everyone who clicked that link and read this blog, commented on it or even talked about it. Never had I thought that this hobby of mine will last even for one year. Thank you United States , Indonesia, Hong Kong , United Kingdom, Singapore, Poland, Australia, United Arab Emirates, France , Bangladesh, Greece , Mexico , Russia and most importantly India!! Thank you for the love!
Since this blog was originally supposed to be about Bollywood and not just film reviews let’s talk Bollywood! The past year has been quite a filmy one for the Industry. With Controversies, shocking surprises and a rise and fall at the ticket window this year has been quite the sensation! We look back to mid Feb last year when the infamous Kangana - Karan spat was at its peak. It all started at Karan Johar’s chat show where Miss Ranaut hurled quite a few nasty remarks at the ace filmmaker. They taught the whole of India and some people sitting abroad the meaning of nepotism. Almost every headline of every newspaper had quoted lines from their feud. It seems as if after Kangana Ranaut made this remark  Karan Johar felt he was not living up to his title of “Flag  bearer of Nepotism” and decided to launch late Sridevi’s daughter Janhvi Kapoor in Dhadak which also stars Shahid Kapoor’s step brother Ishaan Khattar. He is now also launching Chunky Pandey’s daughter , Ananya Pandey in Student of the  year 2 and Saif Ali Khan’s daughter , Sarah Ali Khan in Simmba !  Interestingly he started a show called Indias next superstars to give aspiring actors from non filmy backgrounds a chance to act in movies. The winners of the show were supposed to be the “hero “ and “heroine” of Karan Johar and Rohit Shetty’s next. For now their only collaboration that we know about is Simmba and the lead roles of that film have already been decided so I just hope that the winners of the show get their due!  Then we also had Shahid Kapoor’s wife Mira Rajput claiming that her daughter is not a “puppy” and she will not like to spend one hour with her and then rush out to work. I would just like to say that she had a choice between working and not working and she chose the latter. Many women do not have this Choice. Being a home maker is a tough job but unfortunately it does not earn you any money. So these women  prefer going out to work and earning money for the bright future of their children rather than not doing so  and starving their children and themselves! The next piece of news was the Virushka ( Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma) wedding. The news that the two had got hitched spread like wildfire and it was undoubtedly the most talked about wedding that year with pictures of the grand celebration circulating the internet even weeks later! The Padmavat controversy taught us that just by dropping an ‘I’ from a films title things are supposed to get better  (but they do notšŸ™ƒ). Salman Khan’s jail- bail saga took place in April of this year and it just shows that “ kanoon ke haath bhi Salman Khan ke liye chote padh gaye”......
This year has been a happy time for some and not so happy for the others. I wish Irrfan Khan a speedy recovery and hope the media and his fans give him the time and space that he deserves and shower him with only love and good wishes.
On the morning of 25th February the whole country woke up to the devastating news of legendary actress Sri Devi’s passing. I have only seen one movie of hers and honestly was never really a fan but I felt a certain emptiness in my chest that whole day and the reason being that it was just too shocking! People idolised her , worshipped her she was given the title of India's first female superstar and she deserved it. The disparity of pay between male and female actors has been a topic of hot debate over the past few years. Sri Devi  earned more than most male actors at her time. I won’t disrespect by speculating about the reasons of her death here...... Dance away to heaven Chandini, you were not just an actress, you were an era!

Saiyaara: A Film Review and My Thoughts on Its Reception- By Manya Malhotra

Saiyaara: A Film Review and My Thoughts on Its Reception   Saiyaara Reception and Backlash Saiyaara opened to an 84 crores net domestic box office figure on its opening weekend, a feat unheard of for a film with newcomers, in an industry still recognised as primarily star-led. (For context, the two major films starring newcomers in the past 13 years- Dhadak and Student of the Year, earned 33.65 and 30 crores respectively). I have been a Bollywood (or Hindi film industry) fan for as long as I can remember. Seeing one of its films get such a massive reception has been heartwarming, and I cannot remember the last time a film got so much love. It has now been two weeks since the film’s release. I have read both positive and negative reactions to the film’s unprecedented success, and after digesting it all, I thought it was finally time to revisit my blog and pen down my honest opinion on both the film and everything that has followed since its release. Skeptics will spin many t...

Darlings Film Review By Manya Malhotra

Darlings Film Review By Manya Malhotra Cast :   Alia Bhatt, Vijay Verma, Shefali Shah, Roshan Mathew, Rajesh Sharma, Vijay Maurya Director:   Jasmeet K. Reen   Review :   Darlings is co-written by writer-director Jasmeet K Reen and Parveez Sheikh, who has films like Queen to his writing credits. It stars powerhouse performers like Alia Bhatt, Shefali Shah, and Vijay Verma — and is also Bhatt’s maiden film as a producer. Clearly, the expectations with this one are very high— and yet it still manages to make an impact.  Darling s tells the story of Badrunissa who suffers physical and psychological abuse at the hands of her husband before one day finally deciding to retaliate.  Make no mistake, Darlings is not an easy film to watch. It is infuriating but also determinedly terrifying. It lets you breathe but is also dangerously unsettling.    The first half of the film is the hardest to watch....

Ek Villain Returns Film Review By Manya Malhotra

Ek Villain Returns Review ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ Cast : Arjun Kapoor, Disha Patani, John Abraham, Tara Sutaria Directo r: Mohit Suri Review: Ek Villain Returns is the smiley face-filled sequel to the Blockbuster film Ek Villain . If you did not get the smiley reference, you should probably  check out the first film in the franchise—or not if you value your sanity even a little. I went into the hall for Ek Villain Returns highly sceptical, and willing to wholly suspend disbelief. My decision to do so paid off greatly as I denied myself my usual urge to protest exasperatedly when the hero, or villain, or whatever humiliated and terrified a famous singer to clear the stage (literally) for an up-and-coming artist who he happened to fancy. I also bought it when, impressed by this charming gesture the girl ended up falling head over heels in love with the man.   This is Director Mohit Suri’s world, here love always coexists with pain...
