Dhadak Film Review By Manya Malhotra

Dhadak

3.5
Romance, Drama
Cast: Janhvi Kapoor, Ishaan Khatter, Ashutosh Rana, Ankit Bisht, Shridhar Watsar
Director: Shashank Khaitan
Story: Parthavi and Madhukar fall in love but are held back by societal norms and caste restrictions and have to elope in order to be together.
Review: With stunning locales ( courtesy the gorgeous Udaipur), soulful songs and expressive actors the first half of Dhadak paints a pretty picture. The experience of watching the film’s first half can be compared to eating a cake. When you take your first bite it is delicious but by the time you dig into it, you start feeling a bit full. Though vibrant and somewhat glamorous the first half of Dhadak lacks the charm that Director Shashank Khaitan’s previous films, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaia and Badrinath ki Dulhania had in abundance. Just before the interval there is a particularly thrilling scene that helps the film pick up its pace significantly. Post interval the setting of Dhadak drastically changes. We move from the cozy beds of royal looking palaces to unswept floors of humble dwellings. This is when the real emotions of the characters come out and the leads get to flex their acting chops.
The second half is simple yet effective.
As many people are claiming Dhadak is the sugar coated version of 2016’s Marathi blockbuster Sairat. It has a certain understated charm that shows the hardships of the characters without making us feel uncomfortable. Now talking about the climax scene of the film , it was not handled well. We knew something was going to happen but it took too long to materialise.
It made the audience restless and the last 10 minutes or so of the film grew monotonous. The characters of the film should have got some closure. If the build up to the climax was speeded up the impact of the film would probably have been more. Nevertheless the film definitely deserves a watch if for nothing else then for the impressive leads. This film
had one of the best performances by newcomers in a long time. While Ishaan Khatter  has done one film before this was Janhvi Kapoor’s first film. She is confident and appears to be super comfortable on camera. Ishaan Khatter is mature and a natural. The freshness that these two bring to screen is what makes dhadak so watchable. Do watch the film, it may make your heart skip a beat or or as Karan Johar puts it, a Dhadak!

Saiyaara: A Film Review and My Thoughts on Its Reception- By Manya Malhotra

Saiyaara: A Film Review and My Thoughts on Its Reception   Saiyaara Reception and Backlash Saiyaara opened to an 84 crores net domestic box office figure on its opening weekend, a feat unheard of for a film with newcomers, in an industry still recognised as primarily star-led. (For context, the two major films starring newcomers in the past 13 years- Dhadak and Student of the Year, earned 33.65 and 30 crores respectively). I have been a Bollywood (or Hindi film industry) fan for as long as I can remember. Seeing one of its films get such a massive reception has been heartwarming, and I cannot remember the last time a film got so much love. It has now been two weeks since the film’s release. I have read both positive and negative reactions to the film’s unprecedented success, and after digesting it all, I thought it was finally time to revisit my blog and pen down my honest opinion on both the film and everything that has followed since its release. Skeptics will spin many t...

Darlings Film Review By Manya Malhotra

Darlings Film Review By Manya Malhotra Cast :   Alia Bhatt, Vijay Verma, Shefali Shah, Roshan Mathew, Rajesh Sharma, Vijay Maurya Director:   Jasmeet K. Reen   Review :   Darlings is co-written by writer-director Jasmeet K Reen and Parveez Sheikh, who has films like Queen to his writing credits. It stars powerhouse performers like Alia Bhatt, Shefali Shah, and Vijay Verma — and is also Bhatt’s maiden film as a producer. Clearly, the expectations with this one are very high— and yet it still manages to make an impact.  Darling s tells the story of Badrunissa who suffers physical and psychological abuse at the hands of her husband before one day finally deciding to retaliate.  Make no mistake, Darlings is not an easy film to watch. It is infuriating but also determinedly terrifying. It lets you breathe but is also dangerously unsettling.    The first half of the film is the hardest to watch....

Ek Villain Returns Film Review By Manya Malhotra

Ek Villain Returns Review ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ Cast : Arjun Kapoor, Disha Patani, John Abraham, Tara Sutaria Directo r: Mohit Suri Review: Ek Villain Returns is the smiley face-filled sequel to the Blockbuster film Ek Villain . If you did not get the smiley reference, you should probably  check out the first film in the franchise—or not if you value your sanity even a little. I went into the hall for Ek Villain Returns highly sceptical, and willing to wholly suspend disbelief. My decision to do so paid off greatly as I denied myself my usual urge to protest exasperatedly when the hero, or villain, or whatever humiliated and terrified a famous singer to clear the stage (literally) for an up-and-coming artist who he happened to fancy. I also bought it when, impressed by this charming gesture the girl ended up falling head over heels in love with the man.   This is Director Mohit Suri’s world, here love always coexists with pain...
