Story: A girl and boy, who are in love decide to enter into a secret live in relationship but soon their families find out about them and misunderstand their relationship to be marriage.
Review: Lukka chuppi is set in the small towns of Mathura and Gwalior. The girl and boy meet and two minutes later, they fall madly in love ( to be fair there was a song in between.) So the first half of the movie is just not funny, it tries, really tries and perhaps that’s why it fails. It failed to evoke any kind of reaction from me besides sheer exasperation and made me wonder why I decided to waste my time on this absolutely corny attempt at comedy. It is boring, trying and frankly kind of random. Don’t worry, the film is not a complete let down. The second half is surprisingly pleasant, and truly does have some hysterical one liners. It did manage to crack me up a couple of times. The film is a no- brainer and the climax which is supposed to be the defining point of this film, though funny seems Verma y convenient. When you have built your entire film up to this point and laid so much emphasis on the issue at hand then at least spend a little time on resolving the issue. Also there are five songs in this film and all are remakes, at least bring some originality to the table! Two of these songs aren’t even shown during the film. Kartik Aaryan has de-glammed himself for this role. While in his previous Sonu Ki (Something) ki (something) his hair went two inches above his head, in this film, owing to his small- town character it goes only one inch above his head! Jokes and beauty tips apart, Kartik Aaryan does manage to put together a convincing performance, but he is never able to stand out and own the film. Kriti Sanon seems to have improved her acting chops since her last release but she still has a long way to go considering the tooth and nail competition that exists in the industry today. Pankaj Tripathi is reduced to a ridiculously dressed fellow who moves around town looking for people to hassle. Aparshakti Khurrana in a small role is entertaining. Lukka chuppi lacks the charm that many other small- town films before it have had in abundance. It is not fully plausible, but (the second half) makes for a good laugh. If you are having a dull weekend then you can give this one a try, but stay warned because it will test your patience no matter how much Coca Cola you sip while watching it!
