Review: As I re-evaluate the genre of this film I feel it should be changed from action to disgusting because that is exactly what this movie was in many parts. We are not interested in seeing mummies suck out human souls and the turning of their crooked body parts as they awaken from the dead. If we wanted to see that we would have seen a C-grade horror movie, oh wait, that is exactly what we were doing. This film moves at an awkward pace. Sometimes if you shut your eyes even for a minute you would have missed so much and sometimes if you leave the cinema to buy popcorn and come back ten minutes later( yes I did that) you feel like nothing has happened and the film had been paused for you. Seriously, some scenes are plain ridiculous. I know the mummy is supposed to be the Villain but boy her character gave me the creeps. I mean get a life! Or whatever just remain dead. You can't just have Tom Cruise in a film and think it will be a success there is something called a story. There are some funny scenes in the movie that do make you laugh (though I thought the film was supposed to lean more towards the horror side). After a point of time, you stop caring about what happens to the characters and wish that someone dies so that the film just gets over.
Thankfully, the performances were not a complete let down, though I don't see why the actors even made an effort.
Tom cruise is a natural it never seemed like he was on camera. Sofia Boutella as the mummy did whatever she could with her weirdly written character, She is sincere. Annabelle Wallis is not bad either.
I wasn't scared at all in this film (except for when the interval wasn't coming, that part was petrifying ) and there was no thrill that the film had to offer either. If you still want to see the film, carry an aspirin and a blanket ( If you are able to block out the shrieks) and enjoy!
