Review: Making small- town films has become sort of a trend in Bollywood. The latest follower of this trend is the recently released film Bareilly Ki Barfi. As the title suggests the film is set in Bareilly. The best part about the film is that it remains true to its characters and its story . There have been no unnecessary attempts to sensationalise or glamorise anything. The dialogues by Nitesh Tiwari ( the master mind behind the mega success Dangal) range from quirky to heart touching and are bang on! The film is embellished with wit and humour and has an understated charm. The relationships shown in this film are so real and will surely strike an emotional cord with the audience , especially the father - daughter relationship between Bitti and her father. The peppy music is apt and adds to the "desiness " of the film. The climax scene which could have been soo much fun was a bit of a let down and the film seemed to end rather abruptly . The interactions between the characters in a few scenes could have been cut short. The captain of the ship or should I say cook of this finger- lickingly good Barfi, Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari serves this dish with the required sweetness but the garnishing could have been better. She however did manage to extract wondrous performances from her cast.
Kriti sanon is fresh as the free -spirited girl who is a "musibatt" for her mother. She does a pretty good job. Ayushmann Khurrana gives an applaud worthy performance , he completely nailed it with his first ever grey character! However the person that deserves the most praise for his role is the exceptionally talented Rajkumar Rao. He changes from naive and submissive to rowdy and overbearing as swiftly as a chameleon . Pankaj Tripathi is mind blowing as Bitti's sweet and loving father who gives her the freedom that she so desperately desires. Seema Pahwa is very good too as Bitti's mom whose only trip in life is to get her daughter married . Try this Barfi I assure you, you will definitely want more!
