Story: A man fights against the unprogressive mindset of the people of his society in order to build a toilet for his wife in his house. Will he succeed?
Review : There has come a time in Hindi Cinema, when a film can be made on a relevant social issue and be termed as a commercial film. Toilet : Ek Prem Katha is a proof of just that. The gutsy makers have shed light on a subject which is so vital to our society. However It is unfortunately more often than not deemed insignificant or unnecessary and sometimes even trivial. The film starts off by cementing the love story between its two leads. They meet by the way for the first time outside (you guessed it right ), a toilet! The man stalks the woman ,the woman one day bursts out at the man and tells him to leave her alone. Then the man gets offended and lectures her about how he , a 12th pass is a better match for her than the numerous educated suitors she already has. ( How? Even I don't know ). Then the girl for some inexplicable reason falls head over heels in love with him and then she stalks him ! After all the stalking and ego clashes are finally over, the pair fall in love and the actual film starts . The film is not disgusting and does not make you uncomfortable, that part is handled well by the makers. The second half drowns into a series of lectures and rulings and lectures and rulings and lectures and rulings and you get the point right? The lectures are necessary but not so many . At one point of time it seemed like The main character is having a couplet competition with another guy to try and prove his point!
Bhumi Pednekar is brilliant ,considering this is her second film she is extremely talented!
Akshay Kumar plays the role with the required charm, desperation and anguish and delivers a first rate performance .
Though it has a few flaws ,this film ( with an apt title) deserves to be seen due to its phenomenal portrayal of the issue mixed with a dose of comedy and emotion!
