Housefull 4 Film Review By Manya Malhotra

Housefull 4

2.5
Comedy
Cast: Akshay Kumar, Riteish  Deshmukh, Kriti Sanon, Bobby Deol, Kriti Kharbanda , Pooja Hegde, Johnny Lever, Chunky Pandey
Director: Farhad Samji
Story: Harry recalls everything from his past life in 1419, where the love story of three couples remained unfinished. The couples are reincarnated in 2019, but this time their pairs are mixed up. Can Harry reunite everyone with their correct partners?
Review: The re-incarnation theme  has been attempted before in Bollywood. Housefull 4 is unique because it complements this theme with comedy. The Housefull franchise is synonymous with a mad Premise, a bunch of buffoonish characters and the city of London. As Expected Housefull 4  is no stranger to the above mentioned ingredients. The first half of the film is surprisingly pleasant. It has quite a few wacky one-liners that will tickle your funny bone. Some foot tapping numbers and dazzling visuals add to the viewing experience.  Apart from one particularly disturbing fake molestation scene helmed by Kriti Kharbanda ( read: not sanon) and Akshay Kumar’s character Bala’s occasional casual disregard for appropriate behaviour, the first half of Housefull 4 is free from cringe worthy scenes. The same cannot be said about the film’s second half. One cannot say whether it is because of the change in the director or whether the film simply suffers from the case of the second half getting carried away and leading to an imbalanced film. It just has too many characters being  unnecessarily loud all the time. I do not recall any member of the audience laughing even once throughout the unending second half. Seeing Johnny Lever dressed as a woman is both painful and horrifying. It is painful to see such a talented actor being  reduced to taking part in consented self humiliation. It is horrifying to actually have to witness the whole ordeal. Also, I think we can all safely agree that it is time to do away with Chunky Pandey’s akhri pasta character. He is not funny, he is just plain annoying. As for the performances, except for Akshay Kumar, no one else really has anything to do. The other members of the cast are easily replaceable. Especially the female cast, the only identity they have been given is that of  being someone’s girlfriend or bhabhi. Give this one a miss. Even the theatre was not housefull this time around!

Saiyaara: A Film Review and My Thoughts on Its Reception- By Manya Malhotra

Saiyaara: A Film Review and My Thoughts on Its Reception   Saiyaara Reception and Backlash Saiyaara opened to an 84 crores net domestic box office figure on its opening weekend, a feat unheard of for a film with newcomers, in an industry still recognised as primarily star-led. (For context, the two major films starring newcomers in the past 13 years- Dhadak and Student of the Year, earned 33.65 and 30 crores respectively). I have been a Bollywood (or Hindi film industry) fan for as long as I can remember. Seeing one of its films get such a massive reception has been heartwarming, and I cannot remember the last time a film got so much love. It has now been two weeks since the film’s release. I have read both positive and negative reactions to the film’s unprecedented success, and after digesting it all, I thought it was finally time to revisit my blog and pen down my honest opinion on both the film and everything that has followed since its release. Skeptics will spin many t...

Darlings Film Review By Manya Malhotra

Darlings Film Review By Manya Malhotra Cast :   Alia Bhatt, Vijay Verma, Shefali Shah, Roshan Mathew, Rajesh Sharma, Vijay Maurya Director:   Jasmeet K. Reen   Review :   Darlings is co-written by writer-director Jasmeet K Reen and Parveez Sheikh, who has films like Queen to his writing credits. It stars powerhouse performers like Alia Bhatt, Shefali Shah, and Vijay Verma — and is also Bhatt’s maiden film as a producer. Clearly, the expectations with this one are very high— and yet it still manages to make an impact.  Darling s tells the story of Badrunissa who suffers physical and psychological abuse at the hands of her husband before one day finally deciding to retaliate.  Make no mistake, Darlings is not an easy film to watch. It is infuriating but also determinedly terrifying. It lets you breathe but is also dangerously unsettling.    The first half of the film is the hardest to watch....

Ek Villain Returns Film Review By Manya Malhotra

Ek Villain Returns Review ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ Cast : Arjun Kapoor, Disha Patani, John Abraham, Tara Sutaria Directo r: Mohit Suri Review: Ek Villain Returns is the smiley face-filled sequel to the Blockbuster film Ek Villain . If you did not get the smiley reference, you should probably  check out the first film in the franchise—or not if you value your sanity even a little. I went into the hall for Ek Villain Returns highly sceptical, and willing to wholly suspend disbelief. My decision to do so paid off greatly as I denied myself my usual urge to protest exasperatedly when the hero, or villain, or whatever humiliated and terrified a famous singer to clear the stage (literally) for an up-and-coming artist who he happened to fancy. I also bought it when, impressed by this charming gesture the girl ended up falling head over heels in love with the man.   This is Director Mohit Suri’s world, here love always coexists with pain...
